Keeping kids’ shoes clean is no easy task and parents know this well, as they struggle daily! But kids are kids, which means they play, run around and get dirty, something perfectly normal. Let’s look at some tips below that will relieve you of the headache caused by all the new stains on kids’ shoes, depending on their material.
Leather shoes
Leather kids’ shoes don’t do very well with water. So if your little one comes home with stains, take a microfiber cloth and try to clean them with it. If that doesn’t work, you can choose a special leather cleaner or make your own with water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid and white vinegar. Wet the cloth a little bit with it and rub gently. Be sure to use a small amount and remove it immediately with a clean cloth.
Fabric shoes or sneakers
Kids’ sneakers are the most likely to get dirty, though there are solutions. For simple stains on shoes that won’t go in the washing machine, try baby wipes. If stains persist, try scrubbing them with a toothbrush and a mixture of classic laundry detergent and a little baking soda. To clean the soles or canvas you can also use toothpaste. Always followed by a good rinse afterwards!
Suede shoes
Stains on suede kids’ shoes are probably every parent’s worst nightmares. Like leather, suede shoes don’t exactly love water. The solution in this case is a special brush or – as unbelievable as it sounds – an eraser! A white pencil eraser can, quite literally, erase stains and marks from shoes without damaging them. Be careful not to rub them too hard, though. If the stains still won’t come off (on white shoes for example), you can use a little white vinegar in very small amounts here too.
